The zoo is well-known for its focus on conservation and immersive habitats. Some of the top residents include:

  • The Big Cats: See the impressive Amur Tigers (one of the world's most endangered big cats), Snow Leopards in the "Province of the Snow Cat" exhibit, and Sri Lankan Leopards.
  • The Tropical House: A walk-through indoor environment where you can spot Linne’s two-toed sloths, free-flying tropical birds, and exotic plants.
  • Giraffe Heights: A raised boardwalk that allows you to get eye-to-eye with the zoo’s herd of Reticulated Giraffes.
  • Penguin Cove: Home to a lively colony of African penguins, featuring underwater viewing windows so you can watch them "fly" through the water.
  • Primate Collection: Banham has one of the best collections of small monkeys in Europe, including marmosets, tamarins, and the rare silvery woolly monkeys.

Family Activities & Experiences

Beyond looking at the animals, there are several ways to stay entertained throughout the day:

  • Safari Road Train: A free train ride that circles the park—perfect for little legs and getting a quick overview of the zoo’s layout.
  • Birds of Prey Display: One of the most exciting displays in the UK, where hawks, owls, and falcons fly inches above the crowd.
  • Adventure Play: There is an extensive outdoor adventure play area and a soft play barn for younger children.
  • Animal Talks: Check the daily schedule for keeper talks, which are a great way to learn about the animals’ personalities and conservation efforts.
