Closure Of Tollgate Lane in Bury St Edmunds
8 months ago
The Tollgate Gyratory will be subject to major construction work from the 29th of September.
The work will be carried out until the summer of 2026.
From the 29th of September 2025 to the 13th of October 2025 Tollgate Lane from the roundabout to Hanover Close will be closed 24 hours a day.
This will have a major impact on the 86A & 332.
From the roundabout at Fornham St Genevieve the 86A & the 332 will divert through Fornham All Saints, around the B1106 then access St Benedict's School via the Newmarket Road & Beetons Way. No Bus Stops in Fornham St Genevieve & Fornham St Martin will be served for these 2 weeks.
We expect considerable delays on this route(s)
We have tried our hardest to get the contractor (Cadent Gas Works) to move these dates to a school holiday but they have refused to listed to our concerns.
The lack of forward planning & involvement of crucial parties (the bus operators) have led to a disruptive closure that could have been easily avoided.
The routes we operate are registered local bus services so upending the timetable at short notice is not something we are capable of doing unfortunately.
Closure of the Fornham Road to the Tollgate Gyratory from the 29th of September to Summer 2026.
On top of this closure the B1106 from Fornham St Martin will be closed TOWARDS BURY ST EDMUNDS ONLY from the 29th of September to the summer of 2026.
During the closure services 84/86/332 heading into Bury St Edmunds will serve the stops at Oak Close & the Woolpack in Fornham then turn left up Barton Hill then onto Compiegne Way to access the Rail Station / Bus Station & West Suffolk Hospital.
For services heading towards Thetford & Brandon the services will operate as normal as the road will remain open on a one-way system.
Services 86A & 332 (peak time journey via St Benedict's School) will also follow the above diversion via Barton Hill but will travel back down to the Tollgate junction as Tollgate Lane will be open again. Returning the services in the afternoon will operate as normal. This means we will also be able to serve the stops at Fornham St Genevieve & Fornham St Martin.
We can only apologise for the disruption this will cause to your journey.
We appreciate that construction & highway updates are essential but the lack of foresight on this has turned a manageable situation into a highly disruptive mess.
