🎡 Must-Visit Attractions
- Southend Pier & Railway: You can't miss the longest pleasure pier in the world (1.34 miles). You can walk the full length for the fresh sea air or take the iconic pier train. At the end, you'll find a cafe, the RNLI station, and panoramic views of the Thames Estuary.
- Adventure Island: This is a free-admission theme park, meaning you only pay for the rides you want to go on (via wristbands). It’s home to the famous Rage rollercoaster and has plenty of options for younger children as well.
- Sea Life Adventure: Located right on the seafront, this aquarium features everything from sharks and rays to monkeys and meerkats. It's a great "indoor" backup if the British weather takes a turn.
- The Cliff Lift: For a bit of history, ride the Victorian funicular that links the seafront to the High Street. It offers a great view and saves you a steep walk up the hill.
🏖️ The Beaches & Coastal Walks
Southend has several distinct beach areas depending on the vibe you're looking for:
- City Beach: Right in the heart of the action with fountains and easy access to the arcades.
- Thorpe Bay: A quieter, more picturesque stretch lined with colourful beach huts. It’s perfect for a peaceful stroll or a picnic.
- Old Leigh: A 45-minute walk (or a short train ride to Leigh-on-Sea station) takes you to this historic fishing village. Expect cobbled streets, cockle sheds, and traditional pubs.
